X-Box Cake

I made this X-Box console cake for for my neighbor's sons who were having a gaming birthday party.  I myself am a gamer and I love our X-box 360 so I was really excited to make this cake.

This was a quarter sheet red velvet cake with cream cheese filling.  I used white fondant to cover the entire cake and cut out each detail by hand. I used royal icing to pipe some of the smaller details on the cake like the air vents on top and the green on the power switch.

The best part of the cake was when I delivered it and saw the reaction the kid's faces.  They were so happy to see their cake!

Purple Wedding Bliss

This was a 6" and 8" red velvet square wedding cake with cream cheese filling.   I made this cake for my neighbor's brother and wife.  Their theme was different shades of purple and black.  I covered the entire cake with fondant and piped royal icing polka-dots throughout the cake.  The bows were 2.5 inches wide and were painted over with a silver lustre.  The couple chose to do a fresh flower topper which I arranged on top of a ball of fondant.

I really enjoyed creating this cake and I was really happy the bride and groom enjoyed the outcome.

The Torturous Basket Weave!

I made this cake in my intermediate cake decorating class.  We created royal icing flowers the prior week to bring back and make our flower basket cake. I admit I was a little terrified of the thought of having to basket weave an entire cake.  To my surprise it was not as bad as I thought and I was pleased with the outcome.  The cake flavor was a Cinnamon Streusel filled with cream cheese and iced with butter cream frosting.

Showering Baby Lauren!

.
I made this cake for my sister-in-law's baby shower.  It was a 6" round red velvet cake covered in fondant.  I made the flowers using the Wilton flower cut-outs placing 4mm edible silver balls in the middle of each flower.  The cupcakes where chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting topped with matching fondant flowers.

NiaCake's 1st Birthday

I had a Hello Kitty themed 1st Birthday Party for my younger daughter Nia back in February.  I decided to put my cake decorating skills to the test by making a 6" cake and about 75 cupcakes and mini cupcakes for her party.  I made a cupcake tower using foam board and cement glue trimming it with decorative ribbon as well as the toothpick cupcake toppers to match the theme.  The cupcake flavors were a strawberry cake with whipping cream,  chocolate sour cream cake with cream cheese frosting, and an almond butter cake with butter cream.

Welcome to Sweet Cakes & Honey Buns!

I'm so excited I could share my passion with other people near and dear to me.  Although I've been baking since I was a young child I have just recently learned the art of cake decorating.  Once I picked up that piping bag I haven't been able to put it down.  Please feel free to leave a comment or contact me via email if you have any questions about any of my posts.
