Hot Diggity Dog!
This cake was made for a friend of mine that was having a hot dog themed party. It was my first 3D cake ever, so I was a little nervous to make it! The entire piece was made out of cake including the hotdog and french fries.
I started out by using an 8" square to make the base of the cake. I covered the entire base with white fondant and then cut out red squares and attached it to the base to make the checkered affect.
The hot dog and hot dog bun were made by using a loaf pan. I cut out the center of the loaf to create the bun and kept the center piece to mold out the hotdog itself. I covered the hotdog bun with brown fondant and painted water mixed with brown food coloring onto the bun to give it some texture. I made the hotdog by crumpling pieces of cake and mixing it with icing. I shaped the hotdog and placed it Saran wrap and stuck in the freezer for about 30 minutes. After the hotdog was firm, I wrapped it fondant and placed the hotdog in the bun and topped it off with mustard colored buttercream.
The french fries where simply pieces of yellow cake that I toasted in the oven to give it a nice crisp look.
I was very happy it only took me 1 attempt to make my first 3D cake. I thought it turned out pretty well considering I don't have an air brush yet. I hope to get my first air brush system in the near future. Any recommendations?

The Gibson
The cake was for a 12th birthday party. It was a red velvet cake filled with chocolate ganache. Everything on the cake was completely edible except for the toothpicks that held the tuning pegs in place. I do not currently own an airbrush so I had to make do with what I had.
I started out by baking a half sheet cake and then putting it in the refrigerator over night. This allowed the cake to be firmer before I carved it out. The next day I carved out the body and neck of the guitar and torted it so I could add the filling. I covered each piece in buttercream and put it back in the refrigerator to set. Then, I covered the body of the guitar in an orange/brown fondant and used black color mist to shade the sides of the guitar. After that was done I covered the neck of the guitar in a chocolate brown fondant and assembled the two pieces together.
To make the details on the cake I drew out stencils on a piece of paper and placed them on top of my fondant so I had a guide to cut around. I made the guitar strings using a press. This was actually the hardest process. The press was difficult to use because you really had to use your entire strength to try and squeeze the fondant through the holes. The other challenge was I had to make sure my strings were long enough and did not break while I was squeezing fondant through the press. Even though I did get a great workout making the guitar strings I felt the extra effort was worth the outcome.
I truly enjoyed making this cake. The best part for me about the whole process was delivering the cake to the birthday girl and seeing her reaction when she saw it for the first time. This is why I love what I do.

X-Box Cake
I made this X-Box console cake for for my neighbor's sons who were having a gaming birthday party. I myself am a gamer and I love our X-box 360 so I was really excited to make this cake.
This was a quarter sheet red velvet cake with cream cheese filling. I used white fondant to cover the entire cake and cut out each detail by hand. I used royal icing to pipe some of the smaller details on the cake like the air vents on top and the green on the power switch.
The best part of the cake was when I delivered it and saw the reaction the kid's faces. They were so happy to see their cake!
