Baby Mickey for Baby Mason!

These cakes were for Mason who turned 1.  His Birthday party theme was Baby Mickey and his mom asked if I could do an 10", 8", and 6" cake to place on top of a 3 tier platter.

The 10" tier was red velvet cake with cream cheese filling. I made a Mickey hat made out of gum paste and placed it on top.  The side of the cake was decorated with pastel Mickey heads all around with star accents throughout the cake.

The 8" tier was a chocolate mint cake with chocolate mint buttercream.  I quilted the fondant and added pastel polka-dots around the cake.

The 6" cake was a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling.   For this cake I made different size stripes and placed them all around the cake adding a multicolored bow on top.

Lavender Roses

This was for my cousin's co-worker's Birthday.  She just wanted to give her a personal cake to celebrate her special day at work.

This was a 6" cake covered in fondant with lavender roses on top and some appliques on the side to give it a classic look.

Super Hero Cake!

This super hero cake was for Mark who turned 5 along with his twin sister Gianna (from previous post).  Just like Gianna, Mark also had a special request for his cake.  He wanted Incredible Hulks fist coming out of the top.

This cake was an 8" chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling.  I placed the Spiderman, Superman, and Batman logo all around the side of the cake.  The logos were made by printing out each logo and cutting them out of a piece of paper, which I used as a stencil.  I then took each stencil and placed it on top of my fondant and cut out each shape with an X-Acto knife.

The Incredible hulk fist was a little bit of a challenge for me since I am not a sculptor.  I attempted making it a couple of times and this was the best I came up with.  I ended up shaping a stub with gum paste and rolling out fingers to form a fist.  Then I covered the entire piece with fondant and smoothed it down to make it look like it was sculpted.

The mini cupcakes had matching mini logos to match the cake.

Marshmallow Hello Kitty!

I made this cake and matching mini cupcakes for Gianna who turned 5 years old along with her twin brother Mark (who's cake you will see on my next entry).  The main requirement Gianna requested for this cake was to have a marshmallow Hello Kitty on topper.  Luckily I was able to find this marshmallow Hello Kitty lollipop at Walgreens to use as the topper, these suckers were hard to find.

Gianna's cake was an 8" yellow cake filled with fresh strawberries and whipping cream.  I rolled out balls of fondant for the border in different pastel colors.  I decorated the side of the cake by cutting out flower shapes and sticking hello kitty rings on the side.  I also cut out circles and added the number 5 all around the cake.

The mini cupcakes were simply topped off with mini flowers in the same pastel colors as the cake.

Howdy, Baby!

I made these mini cupcakes for a cowboy themed baby shower.  The couple was going to find out what the gender of their baby was the day of their shower.  They had their ultrasound technician put the sex of the baby in an envelope and they waited until the day of their shower to open it.

The fondant cowboy hats and boots were made using mini cookie cutters and I accented them with stars and stripes.

The couple found out they were having a BOY!  So the cowboy theme was perfect.  Congratulations to the Mommy and Daddy to be.

Castle Cake for my Princess Carina!

I made this cake for my daughter's 4th birthday.  This cake was inspired by her.  She told me she wanted a castle cake and let me know what colors she wanted it, what flavors, and where to put her name.

I started out with a 8" and 6" cake covered both tiers with fondant and used a brick impression mat to make the brick imprints on the castle walls. I made the decorative border on top of each tier by cutting out a 1 inch strip and used a square cutter to cut out the indentations on the border.  The steeple was made by shaping out a piece a fondant and covering it with pink circles placing them all around the steeple.  I sued a diamond cutter to make the flag on top and wrapped it around a tooth pick to place it on top.

The door was made by using a bamboo impression mat and cutting it down to size.  I used a small flower cutter to make the flower accents and added a sugar pearl in the middle of each flower.  The vines where piped with royal icing around the cake and the flowers were placed on top.

Black and Red Party

I made these cupcakes for a red  & black themed 40th Birthday Party.  For the standard cupcakes I made 1 dozen red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing and topped them with black scalloped circles with red fondant roses. The other dozen was chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream topped with white scalloped circles with red cherry blossoms.  The mini cupcakes where the same flavors and simply had a red and black fondant cherry blossoms on top.

The Hot Pink Zebra

This was another cake I made for my grade school friend.  Her sister and father were celebrating their 40th and 70th Birthdays together.  The party was held at Cal Poly, Pomona and the theme of the party was zebra print, hot pink, and silver.

This was a 10" cake covered in zebra print with a fondant bow on top and pearl trim for the border.  I free handed the zebra pattern with black fondant and used a mold to make the pearl border.  The zebra print was also tied into her father's surprise lady cake with the zebra bikini.

Suprise Lady Cake

This cake was for a grade school friend of mine's dad who was celebrating his 70th Birthday.  The only request her dad had for the cake was for a lady to be on top of it.  So I created this cake to mimic a lady popping out of it.  This was a family friendly event so I made sure the lady had on her bikini top.

This cake was a 10" cake covered in fondant with silver appliques to match the theme of the party.  The lady had on a zebra print bikini to match my friend's sister's cake who was also celebrating her Birthday.
