Tiffany Sweet 16

This was a cupcake tower I made for a joint sweet 16 party that was held at the Yorba Linda Country Club.

The cake was a 6" Tiffany Box with a chain link bracelet on top with the celebrants names on top.  There were 2 types of cupcakes on the tower.  The Tiffany blue cupcakes where chocolate with rich vanilla buttercream and white chocolate bows on top.  The white cupcakes where red velvet with cream cheese icing topped with Tiffany blue sprinkles.

Sherlock Holmes Cake

This was a half sheet cake carved into an antique book.  The magnify glass and pipe where made out of fondant and hand painted with gold to give it an antique look.  The book was covered in fondant and hand painted to give it some texture.  I the text on top of the book was hand written in edible ink and was an actual excerpt from a Sherlock Holmes novel.

Happy Birthday to me!

The only problem with being a baker is I now have to make my own birthday cakes. :)  It's okay, I enjoy making them.  I had to decorate this cake in 15mins.  I couldn't be late for my date night with my hubs.  So I just put a ribbon for the boarder and cut out a few flowers to embellish the cake.

Snare Drum Cake

This cake was  6" cake covered in white fondant.  I sprayed the side of the cake with gold luster and painted the accents with silver dye.

40th Birthday Tiffany's style

This is was a 10 x 10 Tiffany box cake with a fondant white ribbon and gift tag.

Vintage Bling

This cake was a made for a little girl named Bella who was turning 4. She loves thing very Blingy and she is a little diva in the making.  Her mom gave me the rhinestone trim and the rhinestone monogram for the top of the cake.  She also provided me with some pre-made Anemones.  I did however, have to make an extra 7 or so Anemones to fill the gaps on the cake.  The rhinestone boarder did not go all the way around the cake and I had to improvise to fill the gap.

This cake was a 12" round and about 6 to 7 inches high.  The cake was a chocolate cake with raspberry preserve filling coated with a white chocolate butter cream.  The entire cake was quilted all around with the accessories added to it.

Lavender Roses

This was for my cousin's co-worker's Birthday.  She just wanted to give her a personal cake to celebrate her special day at work.

This was a 6" cake covered in fondant with lavender roses on top and some appliques on the side to give it a classic look.

Black and Red Party

I made these cupcakes for a red  & black themed 40th Birthday Party.  For the standard cupcakes I made 1 dozen red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing and topped them with black scalloped circles with red fondant roses. The other dozen was chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream topped with white scalloped circles with red cherry blossoms.  The mini cupcakes where the same flavors and simply had a red and black fondant cherry blossoms on top.

The Hot Pink Zebra

This was another cake I made for my grade school friend.  Her sister and father were celebrating their 40th and 70th Birthdays together.  The party was held at Cal Poly, Pomona and the theme of the party was zebra print, hot pink, and silver.

This was a 10" cake covered in zebra print with a fondant bow on top and pearl trim for the border.  I free handed the zebra pattern with black fondant and used a mold to make the pearl border.  The zebra print was also tied into her father's surprise lady cake with the zebra bikini.

Suprise Lady Cake

This cake was for a grade school friend of mine's dad who was celebrating his 70th Birthday.  The only request her dad had for the cake was for a lady to be on top of it.  So I created this cake to mimic a lady popping out of it.  This was a family friendly event so I made sure the lady had on her bikini top.

This cake was a 10" cake covered in fondant with silver appliques to match the theme of the party.  The lady had on a zebra print bikini to match my friend's sister's cake who was also celebrating her Birthday.

Shop 'til you drop!

My Zumba instructor asked me to make this cake for her daughter, friend, and friend's daughter who were all having a joint birthday party.  The one thing all three ladies had in common was they all loved to shop.

This was a 14" round cake covered in fondant.  The base was trimmed with black and white polk-a-dot ribbon attached with royal icing.  All the figures on top of the cake where molded out of fondant including the sofa and lady on top. The bags around the sofa where various shopping bags accumulated from a long day of shopping.

The Gibson

The cake was for a 12th birthday party.  It was a red velvet cake filled with chocolate ganache.  Everything on the cake was completely edible except for the toothpicks that held the tuning pegs in place.  I do not currently own an airbrush so I had to make do with what I had.

I started out by baking a half sheet cake and then putting it in the refrigerator over night.  This allowed the cake to be firmer before I carved it out.  The next day I carved out the body and neck of the guitar and torted it so I could add the filling.  I covered each piece in buttercream and put it back in the refrigerator to set.  Then, I covered the body of the guitar in an orange/brown fondant and used black color mist to shade the sides of the guitar.  After that was done I covered the neck of the guitar in a chocolate brown fondant and assembled the two pieces together.

To make the details on the cake I drew out stencils on a piece of paper and placed them on top of my fondant so I had a guide to cut around.  I made the guitar strings using a press.  This was actually the hardest process.  The press was difficult to use because you really had to use your entire strength to try and squeeze the fondant through the holes.  The other challenge was I had to make sure my strings were long enough and did not break while I was squeezing fondant through the press.  Even though I did get a great workout making the guitar strings I felt the extra effort was worth the outcome.

I truly enjoyed making this cake.  The best part for me about the whole process was delivering the cake to the birthday girl and seeing her reaction when she saw it for the first time.  This is why I love what I do.

Aloha Oe!

This cake was made for my parents' friend having a surprise Luau for his 60th birthday party.  This cake was a half sheet red velvet cake filled with chocolate cream cheese.

The entire cake was iced with buttercream.  I added texture to the sides of the cake and added graham cracker crumbs all around to create a sand effect.  I also added texture to the top of the cake to create waves and used blue color mist to color the water blue.

The Hibiscus was made using royal icing that I piped in a flower form.  My intent was to make about 6 or 7 Hibiscuses for this cake, but they did not dry in time.  I was only able to salvage 1 out of my whole batch and I was bummed because they came out beautifully.  As back up, I made Plumeria flowers out of fondant and some yellow flowers out of royal icing.

The palm trees where all piped using buttercream along with the leaves for the flowers.  I used a rose petal tip to make the trunk of the trees and a large leaf tip to make the branches of the palms.

I'm All In!

I made this cake for a friend's 40th Birthday party.  It was a poker tournament party hence the poker themed cake.  It was a marble cake with cream cheese filling.

I made the poker table by starting out with an 8" square cake and trimmed one corner to make the rounded end of the poker table. The black arm pad was made by rolling out black fondant and placing the piece directly on the cake.

The poker chips and playing cards were all made out of fondant.  I cut out the shape of the playing cards by using an actual card and cutting the fondant around it.  The chips were made using a circle cutter and edible maker to make the hash marks and 40s on the chips.

The Torturous Basket Weave!

I made this cake in my intermediate cake decorating class.  We created royal icing flowers the prior week to bring back and make our flower basket cake. I admit I was a little terrified of the thought of having to basket weave an entire cake.  To my surprise it was not as bad as I thought and I was pleased with the outcome.  The cake flavor was a Cinnamon Streusel filled with cream cheese and iced with butter cream frosting.
